Former Rebel brings culture of peace
initiatives to Digos City
Centre for

advocate Don
Flordeliza, Jr. was
joined last
September 21,
2007 by religious
and tribal
leaders, various
non-government
organizations, DepEd
city schools
division personnel,
teachers and
principals.

and Digos City
government officials in a
symbolic ceremony of
freeing the doves
in front of the
Gallarde Hall inside the
Digos Government
Center grounds,
Digos
City, Davao del Sur, Philippines,
as a statement of
solidarity with the
other nations and
peoples of the world
in celebrating September
21, 2007 as
International Day of Peace.
The event, which was
preceded by an
Inter-Faith Prayer
for Peace in
Mindanao,
is part of the
Kalinaw: Panaghoy
sa Mindanaw
(Mindanao cries for
peace!) culture
of peace project of the
Digos City
Partnership for
Peace that was
launched the
previous day. It was
followed by a twin
city-wide
inter-school
competition
featuring an
on-the-spot Peace
painting contest
for elementary
pupils and Peace
essay-writing
contest for high
school students.
These culture of
peace events are recognized as part of
this year's worldwide
celebration of
September as the
U.N. mandated month of Peace.
The
Digos City
Partnership for
Peace was
formally established
last Sept. 20,
2007, with
the
signing of the
“Digos City
Declaration of
Peace” by
its
Founding Partners,
both from the
government led by
Mayor Arsenio A.
Lasata and the
private sector
spearheaded by
Convener Bernardo P.
Quipit, Jr. and
Co-convener Atty.
Cynthia Doromal,
together with the
Centre for P.E.A.C.E.
